Accelerating Hungary’s Path to Innovation Leadership
Read an analysis on the current state and growth levers published in the quarterly journals of the National Bank of Hungary on economics and finance by László Bódis and Ádám Kiss.
Key recommendations for the Ecosystem:
-
Improve Coordination and Strategy Alignment: There is a need for a coordinated national innovation strategy that aligns public policy, funding, and institutional support systems toward shared objectives.
-
Strengthen Regional Innovation Hubs: Budapest dominates the ecosystem, but efforts must be made to develop and connect regional innovation hubs to foster inclusive, decentralized growth.
-
Foster International Collaboration and Networks: Hungary must increase its participation in international innovation networks, including EU initiatives, to attract knowledge, partnerships, and investment.
-
Enhance Startup Support Infrastructure: Business support services like incubators, accelerators, and mentoring programs need to be more integrated, professionalized, and better aligned with startup lifecycle needs.
-
Mobilize Private Capital and Reduce Dependence on Public Funding: A more dynamic venture capital landscape and greater private sector involvement are essential to reduce reliance on state funds and promote sustainable startup growth.
